Howard Lerner is DecemberPress. Lerner is an entrepreneur and digital marketing strategist with 20 years of small- and mid-sized business experience.
A trained professional journalist with a master’s degree in editorial reporting from the University of Missouri – Columbia, Lerner has worked for newspapers and magazines such as The Jerusalem Post, The Topeka Capital-Journal, The St. Louis Business Journal and St. Louis Magazine.
Prior to his journalism career, Lerner has worked as a copywriter for TBWA/Chiat/Day, and other advertising agencies.
Lerner left journalism in 1994 to open Kaldi’s Coffee Roasting Company, which he sold in 2009 after opening a fourth location. Kaldi’s is St. Louis’s leader in small-batch coffee roasting and has consistently appeared among the top 10 specialty coffee companies in the United States, according to United States Barista Competition rankings.
In 2009, Lerner launched Inbru Coffee Flavors, a company built around a flavoring technology he created and patented. The product reimagines how coffee can be flavored at home and in a cafe environment. The product was selected by Williams-Sonoma to lead the kitchen and gift retailer’s new coffee product offerings list and was picked up by all 262 North American stores. Lerner sold the company in 2012.
Much of Inbru’s success was built on its digital marketing appeal. Lerner became interested in website design and eCommerce through his experience with inbru.com, Inbru’s online presence. He built the product into a high-margin business with wholesale and retail customers ordering 24/7/365. DecemberPress is the culmination of Lerner’s experiences in business and technology.
